  2. information on how to access the
  3. Ada-Info files on the Ada20.

  6.         Access to Ada* Information on the Defense Data Network
  7.         ------------------------------------------------------

  9.         The Ada-Info directory on the Ada20 computer is available
  10. to authorized DDN users only.  It is an official source of
  11. information on the Ada language and Ada activities.  Sponsored by
  12. the Ada Joint Program Office and maintained by the Ada
  13. Information Clearinghouse, this computer directory is used to
  14. announce current events, general activities and to indicate the
  15. status of various Ada compiler efforts.  The directory is resident
  16. on the University of Southern California Information Sciences
  17. Institute, System F (USC-ISIF), whose alias is Ada20, and is
  18. accessible via the Defense Data Network (DDN).
  19.  
  20.            The DDN is a collection of approximately eighty
  21. different computer networks representing DoD facilities, research
  22. centers and academia throughout the free world.  All of the
  23. networks are packet-switching systems with interconnections at
  24. various locations.  Access to the DDN is controlled by the
  25. Department of Defense.  To obtain access to the DDN it is first
  26. necessary to have a computer directory or access to a directory
  27. on one of the several thousand host computers comprising the
  28. system.  The AJPO maintains two hosts at the ISI facility in
  29. California: the Ada20 and the Adavax.  Access to these systems is
  30. controlled by the AJPO and is limited to those individuals
  31. providing a significant level of support to the Ada effort.  Once
  32. access is obtained to one of these systems or to any other DDN
  33. host, the system administrator will provide directory and
  34. password information to the user.  The following is the procedure
  35. for making a connection to the Ada-Info directory from a DDN
  36. host.

  39. For Ada20 Users:
  40.  
  41.         1.  Log into your directory on Ada20.
  42.  
  43.         2.  Type "Type <Ada-Info>Files.Hlp" for a listing of all help
  44.             files in the Ada-Info directory.
  45.  
  46.         3.  To View one of the files from this listing, type
  47.             "Type <Ada-Info>Filename.Ext" where 'Filename' is the name
  48.             of a file in the listing.

  50.         4.  To Copy one of the files from this listing to a local directory,
  51.             type "Copy <Ada-Info>Filename.Ext Fileb.Ext" where 'Filename' is
  52.             the name of a file in the listing and Fileb.Ext is the new local
  53.             file name.

  56. For users of other DDN computers supporting the FTP program:
  57.  
  58.         1.   From a directory on the other machine, invoke FTP.
  59.  
  60.         2.   Establish a connection to the Ada20.
  61.  
  62.         3.   When the 'Connection Opened' message is displayed; login by
  63.             typing "Log Anonymous Username" where 'Username' is the user
  64.             login name on the other machine.

  66.         4.   When the 'User Logged in' message appears, type
  67.             "Get <Ada-Info>Files.Hlp Fileb.Ext" where Fileb.Ext is
  68.             the local filename to write.

  70.         5.  To read a desired file(?), step repeated substituting the
  71.             new filename for 'Files'.
  72.
